See ‘Clone’ warriors on, off screen
Thursday, August 14, 2008
Several out-of-this-world members of the local chapter of the 501st Legion, the world’s largest professional Star Wars costuming organization, will be attending the opening of the latest film in the “Star Wars” saga, “The Clone Wars” Saturday at Monaco Pictures.
The members will be appearing from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the theater in Bridge Street Town Centre. The public is encouraged to come out, meet the characters and take pictures.
Founded in 1997, the 501st Legion has grown to include more than 5,000 members in 42 countries on all seven continents, including Antarctica, thanks to an intrepid, “Star Wars”-loving research scientist from Australia stationed at the South Pole.
Though people may initially join the 501st Legion because of a love of “Star Wars” or costuming, they quickly fall in love with helping those in need.
The organization has a soft spot for charities – especially children’s charities, such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the National Down Syndrome Society and the Shriners, just to name a few. The 501st Legion has raised millions of dollars in its 11 years of service. For more information on the 501st Legion, go to 501st.com. Contact the local chapter of the 501st Legion at al501st@gmail.
