Woburn Parade 2009

October 27, 2009

This event marks the beginning of my third active year with the 501st Legion. The Woburn Parade has quickly become one of the major events that I would be loath to miss, and for good reason: this is one of the larger events that we come out in great numbers, and churn out some of our best work for.

In years past, the New England Garrison has done a number of large props: a life-sized Jabba the Hutt and Dewback for the past two years, we shifted gears and went with something just as cool, but not quite as big: Battle Droids for the 501st, and an Ewok Village for Alderaan Base. Both builds came off wonderfully, with our two battle droids, Fred and Ginger Rogers looking fantastic. The Ewok Village likewise looked fantastic, with several of our garrison member’s children posing as Ewoks.

The highlight here, however, was the first Clones from the NEG’s massive build recently, which churned out 20 new clone kits. Most of those are still in the works, but there were six of our members who had finished them in time to get them put together, although one was still building his in the parking lot. I was the only AOTC clone there, movie-accurate, rather than Cartoon accurate, which was pretty amusing.

The parade itself was a painful experience. While I’ve marched in my Clone Armor before, I made some small changes and/or put it together wrong this time around, and as a result, I’ve been aching for the past couple of days while waiting for the bruises and cuts to heal. 2.2 miles is a long way to walk in armor, and I was happy that the parade was over, but I was equally happy that I’d done the parade.

Pictures can be seen here.

New VT Events

February 17, 2009

A couple of developments lately with the Vermont side of the NEG. Over the past couple of days, we’ve confirmed or at least begun to think about attending a couple of events in the area.

March 10-15 – Montpelier’s Geek Week, run by the folks over at the Langdon St. Cafe, for the third year running. We don’t have anything nailed down yet, but this is an event that we’ll miost likely see one or two armored figures walking around for.

April 25 or 26 – Vermont Maple Fest, in St. Albans, I trooped this last year with fellow member Jerry Kolvas, and had a very good time with that. Hopefully, we’ll get more troopers to this one, this time around.

Upcoming Events

July 24, 2008

I’ve had to trim a couple of things recently because of some issues that I’ve had lately.

7-26 – Toys R Us Midnight Event, Williston Vermont
- I’d originally intended on going to the New York City Times Square event, but that’s just not going to work out this time around, so I’m doing the one in Williston Vermont. Far less cool, but it’s a troop.

7-31 – Game Tournament @ Burlington’s Fletcher Free Library
- We’re showing up to troop at a kid’s gaming thing in Burlington, which should be fun, low key.

8-9 – Balloon Festival, St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec
- This is up near Montreal, where the Darth Vader Balloon will be appearing. Can’t wait for this one.

8-15 – Clone Wars release, Williston or Burlington, VT
- I’m currently working out which theater we’re going to be going to, with some very positive leads. Hopefully, the Majestic 10, once they get their schedule finalized.

9-6 – MS Challenge Walk, Cape Cod, MA
- I might do this, depending on how things are going, although it is a very long drive down to Cape Cod.

9-13 – Walk Now for Autism

9-20 – West Boylston Bicentennial Arts Festival

10-5 – Walk Now for Autism

10-11/12 – Music of John Williams Concert
Maine

10-19 – Greater Boston Walk Now for Autism 2008

Oct – Woburn Halloween Parade
Nov – SuperMegaFest

It’s looking like the fall is getting crowded too, and I’m thinking that I’ll have to ditch the MS Challenge Walk, maybe a couple of the other Autism walks as well… I’m not sure if I’ll do Supermegafest either yet.

Toys R Us Midnight Events

July 9, 2008

Want to see the 501st in large numbers? Go to your local Toys R Us on July 25th, where the each store will be opening at midnight. The 501st won’t be at each one, but I know that there will be a number of appearances across the nation. I personally will be at the New York Time Square location.

Upcoming Events

May 14, 2008

Wow, things just got busy all of a sudden. This weekend, on Sunday, I’ve been planning on attending the Granite City Comic Con, in Manchester New Hampshire. It’s a pretty small event, with probably 10-15 troopers attending, along with our Jabba the Hutt puppet. Should be fun.

Last night, while flipping through channels, I stopped on the news, where they mentioned an upcoming event, the Burlington Kid’s Day, which is in it’s 23rd year. Even better, the theme this year was Kids In Outer Space, which practically screams 501st. Check with our guys, there’s some interest, check with the organizers, they’d like us to come, so two events this weekend.

And after that, next week, I’m headed down to New York City, to see my brother Dan play in a concert at Carnegie Hall, but because we’re getting there early in the day, I’m going to try and pack my armor along and troop with the Empire City Garrison as there’s the Movie and TV World Convention that day! Woo!
